The long-running outdoor drama The Miracle Worker will return this summer to Ivy Green, the birthplace of Helen Keller in Tuscumbia, offering audiences a firsthand look at one of history’s most well-known stories of perseverance.

The production will run Friday and Saturday evenings from June 12 through June 27 and July 10 through July 18, with additional Thursday performances scheduled for June 25 and July 16. All shows begin at 8 p.m., with gates opening at 7 p.m.

Staged on the grounds where Keller was born and raised, the play tells the story of how she, after losing her sight and hearing at 19 months old, learned to communicate with the help of her teacher, Annie Sullivan. The outdoor production features period costumes and a cast of local and regional actors performing on an open-air stage.

Organizers say the setting at Ivy Green draws visitors from around the world each year, offering a unique opportunity to experience the story where it unfolded.

The play, written by William Gibson, first premiered in 1959 and later became an Academy Award-winning film adaptation. The Ivy Green production is now in its 65th season and is recognized as Alabama’s official outdoor drama.

Tickets are $20 for reserved seating and $15 for general admission, with discounts available for groups. Special accommodations are available with advance notice.

More information, including ticket details, is available through the production’s website.
