HUNTSVILLE — Many kids enter foster care with little more than a few items stuffed in a garbage bag. Lee Marshall’s Kids to Love “More Than a Backpack” program believes they deserve more than that.

Suburban Propane Partners, a nationwide distributor of renewable fuel and services, partnered with Huntsville’s Kids to Love to provide clothing, holiday gifts, scholarships and essential supplies to children in foster care.

A backpack provides kids with something permanent in which to carry their belongings whether it is for moving, school, or just to have that is nice and valuable they can carry with dignity.

Known as the SuburbanCares initiative, a nonprofit arm of the company, members of the Huntsville Suburban customer service center volunteered recently to help stuff more than 200 bags with essential supplies to donate to local kids in foster care.

“With a brand-new backpack stocked with school supplies, thousands of foster children will be ready to start off their school year with confidence,” said Lee Marshall, CEO and founder of Kids to Love. “We love when businesses rally behind our kids and Suburban Propane is a shining example of generosity and volunteerism, showing the true spirit of service.”

The SuburbanCares initiative is committed to supporting charitable endeavors in numerous underserved communities across the U.S.

The group also fed healthcare professionals in 2020 in some of the most COVID-19 affected regions in the nation.

“SuburbanCares is dedicated to giving back to the communities in which we live and operate,” said Nandini Sankara, spokeswoman for Suburban Propane. “Organizations like Kids to Love are invaluable; providing love, support, educational opportunities, and necessities to children in foster care, and we are honored to work with them.”
