Thinking paws-itive: Bank Independent, Helping Hands Foundation partnering for Adoption Day

SHEFFIELD — A special adoption day event for animals in desperate need of homes is scheduled for Friday in Sheffield.

The event, made possible through a partnership between Bank Independent and the Helping Hands Foundation, will support local communities and animal shelters.

“Adoption Day represents our commitment to making a meaningful difference in the communities we serve,” said Bank Independent CEO Rick Wardlaw. “By covering adoption fees, we hope to remove financial barriers and encourage more families to open their homes to a pet in need.

“Our local shelters do an incredible job, and we’re proud to support their efforts in finding loving homes for these animals.”

According to Ashley Balch, public relations manager for Bank Independent, the company wanted to address whatever the shelters needed help with most.

“It’s important for two reasons, to help the shelters manage the number of pets they are housing but also to allow those that want to adopt the opportunity,” he said. “We have always done a Shelter Share Drive where we gathered supplies that the shelters need to operate. As we thought through this year it was about what do the shelters need the most. What we heard back is to relieve the overcrowding.
“We decided to put all the resources toward getting the shelters emptied and helping those who wanted a pet adopt one.”

Participating shelters include:

  • Colbert County Animal Shelter
  • Decatur Animal Services
  • Florence/Lauderdale Animal Services
  • HOPE in Franklin County
  • Huntsville Animal Shelter
  • Lawrence County Animal Shelter
  • Morgan County Animal Shelter
  • Creating Hope For Paws

Adopting a pet from a shelter not only gives an animal a second chance at life but
also supports the efforts of shelters working to care for abandoned, neglected, or surrendered animals. Every pet adopted opens up space for another animal in need, making a lasting impact on the community.

Potential adopters are encouraged to visit participating shelters early, as the
number of adoptions available at each location will be limited and managed on a
first-come, first-served basis.
