HUNTSVILLE — A dynamic message sign will rise into the sky this week over I-565 westbound near the Triana Boulevard overpass in Huntsville, the Alabama Department of Transportation announced.
Contractor Stansell Electric will implement lane closures Thursday from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m. The closures will reduce I-565 westbound to one lane of traffic from near Oakwood Avenue to Triana Boulevard.
Expect two rolling roadblocks, each about 30 minutes in duration, while a crane lifts the overhead structure and DMS into position.
During the roadblocks, the contractor will close the on-ramps to I-565 westbound at Oakwood Avenue, Washington Street and U.S. 231/U.S. 431/Memorial Parkway. State troopers will assist with traffic control.
Additionally, the contractor will close the inside lane of I-565 eastbound from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m.
It is the last major feature being installed as part of the $5.2 million I-565 advanced corridor management project.

The project added to the corridor two other DMS, 10 traffic cameras, and two stations for monitoring road and weather conditions, in addition to fiber optic cable and communication devices.
A change to the originally planned location of this message sign required exploratory drilling and redesign of foundations, delaying its installation.
Foundations and uprights for the sign are already in place.
