HUNTSVILLE — A crowd of some 4,300 runners/joggers/strollers/walkers gathered Saturday morning in downtown Huntsville to support breast cancer awareness and prevention.

The Huntsville Hospital Foundation’s 19th annual Liz Hurley Ribbon Run 5K and Survivors’ Walk returned after a hiatus due to the pandemic.

The enthusiasm of the participants and onlookers along the route was evident.

Coming in 256 Today: Look for a recap and the money raised in the event.

The Survivors’ Walk started the emotion-filled morning as they were cheered by the 5K run/walk participants.

This year’s run will provide for the top-priorities of local Breast Centers, including high-tech and high-touch needs. Proceeds will purchase necessary Dense Breast Software upgrades to better pinpoint which patients need additional levels of cancer screening for accurate diagnosis.

Funds raised will also be used to enhance the patient experience for those receiving screenings and care at the Huntsville Hospital for Women & Children Breast Cancer.

These updates will improve each patient’s comfort and surroundings to reduce the anxiety and fear that so many women experience during these procedures.
