HUNTSVILLE – Huntsville Parks & Recreation is excited to unwrap the 2024-25 Winter Program Guide, packed with hundreds of festive and free activities for residents to enjoy at City facilities.
Whether you’re looking to stay active, celebrate the season or make lasting memories with loved ones, there’s something for everyone this winter.
“We believe the holiday season is a time for giving, and we’re proud to give back to our community with these events for residents of all ages,” said James Gossett, Parks & Recreation director. “We hope our residents will join us in participating and celebrating the joy and magic of the season with us.”
The guide features a wide range of programs including fitness classes, aquatics, athletics and outdoor adventures, providing opportunities for all ages and abilities.
In addition to those seasonal offerings, the guide highlights more than a dozen festive holiday-themed programs and events, including the ongoing Cozy Care Holiday Drive, Maintain, Don’t Gain, Big Spring Jingle, Winter Break Camps and more.
The Winter Program Guide is available online or in print at Parks & Recreation facilities, while supplies last.

The following events are free and for all ages unless otherwise noted. Some events also require registration:
- Tinsel Trail: Friday through Dec. 31, Big Spring Park
- Toys for Tots Drive: Friday through Dec. 11, Johnson Legacy Center during regular hours of operation)
- Santa Selfie Studio: Dec. 1-24, Dr. Richard Showers, Sr. Recreation Center (during regular hours of operation)
- Mistletoe & Bingo Bash: Dec. 3, 9-11 a.m., Dr. Robert Shurney Legacy Center (Ages 50+)
- Christmas Wreath-Making Workshop: Dec. 6, 5-8 p.m., Cavalry Hill Community Center ($10 per person; ages 18+)
- Shining Stars Adaptive Holiday Talent Showcase: Dec. 7, 5-8 p.m., Jaycee Building at John Hunt Park (Ages 6+)
- Santa’s Senior Shindig: Dec. 12, 9 a.m. to noon, Mark Russell Recreation Center (Ages 50+)

- Zumba Jingle Jam: Dec. 20. 5-6 p.m., Challenger Gymnasium (Ages 18+)
- Big Spring Jingle: Dec. 20, 4-9 p.m., Big Spring Park
- Parents’ Night Out: Dec. 20, 5-8 p.m., Mark Russell Recreation Center (registration required)
- Holiday Play Day for Kids: Dec. 21, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Brahan Spring Park Recreation Center (registration required by Dec. 13; ages 6-12)
- Holiday Art Clinic: Dec. 21, 9 a.m. to noon, Optimist Recreation Center ($10 per child; ages 7-12)
- Winter Break Camp: Dec. 23 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Dec. 24 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Dr. Richard Showers Sr. Center and Fern Bell Recreation Center (Students in grades 1-6; $20 for first child, $10 per sibling)
