Tornado watch issued; some Huntsville outdoor sirens not working

HUNTSVILLE — With a threat of severe weather in today’s forecast, the Huntsville-Madison County EMA has three outdoor warning sirens that are not working, the agency announced.

The EMA issued a tornado watch from the National Weather Service office in Huntsville effective to 5 p.m. today. The counties in the watch area are Madison, Cullman, Morgan, Limestone, Colbert, Lauderdale and Lawrence.

In a news release, the EMA said it is waiting on replacements for the sirens at Fire Station 15 on Sparkman Drive, next to Highlands Elementary; and the roundabout on Indian Creek Road at Old Monrovia Road. A siren on Dunlop Boulevard is not working; the agency is waiting for the electric meter to be installed.

The EMA urges residents to have multiple ways to receive warnings, including NOAA weather radios.
