Toyota Alabama announces childcare center for employees in Huntsville

PLANO, Texas — The Toyota Alabama factory in Huntsville is among four plants that will have childcare centers at the site.

The automaker announced today the centers will serve parents at Toyota Alabama, Toyota North Carolina, Toyota Mississippi, and Toyota West Virginia. The company is also building upon two childcare facilities for Toyota’s Kentucky and Indiana plants.

The childcare center in Huntsville will open in 2026 and care for up to 274 children over two shifts.

“At Toyota, we know it is paramount for working parents to have access to quality childcare, and manufacturing is not always a nine-to-five job,” said Denita Neville, vice president of Toyota’s Corporate Shared Services. “Offering childcare motivates and empowers our team members, makes our industry more inclusive and helps our smallest learners of today become our biggest leaders of tomorrow.”

According to a news release, each of the new childcare centers is being developed in collaboration with third party, high-quality childcare providers and will align with plant production schedules, helping to ensure that team members can balance work and family responsibilities.

Two of the new centers at Toyota’s manufacturing sites will open this year and all four centers will open by 2027.

  • Toyota North Carolina in Liberty opened this month and cares for up to 312 children over two shifts.
  • Toyota Mississippi in Blue Springs opens in the fall and will care for up to 238 children over two shifts.
  • Toyota West Virginia in Buffalo opens by 2027 and will care for up to 240 children over two shifts.

All centers will introduce an age-based curriculum for children six-weeks to five-years, promoting learning through motor development, as well as physical, cognitive and social-emotional growth, the company said. They will be equipped with a commercial kitchen, STEM room, movement matters space and an outdoor playground.

All sites will go through the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) accreditation process which establishes standards for quality childcare programs.

Beyond onsite childcare centers, Toyota also offers benefits through Bright Horizons. Their services help employees find ongoing childcare, make plans for known and unexpected gaps, or arrange temporary care for family members.

Toyota Motor Manufacturing Alabama off Pulaski Pike in Huntsville employs more than 2,000 team members and builds more than 3,000 engines each day, producing one-third of Toyota’s engines in the U.S. at its 1.3 million-square-foot facility. It is the only plant producing four-cylinder, V6 and V8 engines for Toyota vehicles.
