Trash Pandas announce radio broadcast partnership with new WZZN format

MADISON – The station and dial location are the same, but the Rocket City Trash Pandas will nonetheless have a new radio home for the 2024 season.

The majority of Trash Pandas’ broadcasts are moving to the all-new TalkRadio WZZN on 97.7-HD2 with some select games on ESPN 97.7 The Zone. An HD radio is necessary to follow along on TalkRadio while in the car. However, there are ways to connect to the broadcasts via a free phone app or through a home computer.

Meanwhile, Braves games will remain on ESPN 97.7 The Zone and will no longer be preempted by Trash Pandas broadcasts.

“There’s multiple ways to get the broadcast, but the first way would be to have an HD radio,” said Steve Moulton, program director at 97.7 The Zone. “It would pop up on your radio – it would usually have a number one or a number two. There’s some signals that have multiple HD signals. So, it’ll just pop up as one and two.

“Our primary signal is still the ESPN radio feed, but our talk radio station officially launched (Tuesday) and it is going to be on the dot too. You have to own an HD radio first and foremost.”

Listeners without an HD radio can download an app at the Google or Apple stores.

“You’ll have to put it in the search engine of talk radio WZZN. All together, no spaces – talkradioWZZN, all together,” Moulton said. “Download the app and then the feed will pop up whatever is on the station, which is Fox News during the day, Fox Sports at night. And of course, the home for the Trash Pandas, too.

“There’s also a website to go to as well, and it’s the same thing as for the app – talkradiowzzn.com. And there is a listen live button on the website.”

Trash Pandas games were moved to the new format so the station could keep carrying the Braves.

Rocket City coverage begins April 5 when the Trash Pandas open their 2024 campaign on the road at the Tennessee Smokies (Double-A, Chicago Cubs affiliate).

Trash Pandas broadcaster Josh Caray will have the call on the games. Caray, the son of late Braves broadcaster Skip Caray and grandson of Hall of Fame broadcaster Harry Caray, is set to begin his fourth season with the Trash Pandas and 13th overall in professional baseball.  The Trash Pandas pre-game show will air 15 minutes prior to the first scheduled pitch of all 138 Rocket City games.

“We’re thrilled to begin this partnership with ESPN 97.7 The Zone and a new opportunity with WZZN-FM,” said Caray. “We look forward to several more years of delivering exciting Trash Pandas baseball to our listening audience.”

The broadcast remains accessible on the MiLB app and at TrashPandasBaseball.com
