KNOXVILLE – The Tennessee Valley Authority announced their power generation system met the highest peak demand in the agency’s over 91-year history.

Wednesday’s preliminary all-time record peak of 35,319 megawatts came at 8 a.m. CT with a system temperature of 11 degrees. Officials note TVA’s power system remained stable throughout the event.

The news comes after the TVA requested all customers across their seven state service areas to voluntarily conserve energy this morning from 5 a.m. and 9 a.m.

Meanwhile, freezing temperatures continue during the overnight hours. According to the National Weather Service Huntsville Office, wind chills as low as minus-5° are expected tonight.

The local office says temperatures will finally warm above the freezing mark in most locations tomorrow afternoon with daily highs into the 40s later this week. However, overnight lows will remain below freezing.

The Tennessee Valley Authority is the nation’s largest public power supplier, delivering energy to 10 million people across seven southeastern states.
