U.S. News names Huntsville Hospital ‘Best Regional Hospital’; No. 2 in Alabama

HUNTSVILLE – Huntsville Hospital was named Best Regional Hospital for 2022-2023, according to U.S. News & World Report’s Best Regional Hospitals. It joins an elite group of just 12% of hospitals nationwide, the magazine said

Furthermore, Huntsville Hospital ranked No. 2 as the Best Hospital in Alabama.

U.S. News ranks hospitals in both states and major metro areas, recognizing hospitals in every region of the country.

Hospital rank is determined by the facility’s performance among adults based on scores in 10 procedure and condition areas.

Huntsville Hospital was called “high performing” in nine of those areas, including hip replacement, heart attack, heart failure, heart bypass surgery, colon cancer surgery, uterine cancer surgery, stroke, diabetes and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease — better known as COPD.

U.S. News’ evaluation of Huntsville Hospital includes data from Huntsville Hospital for Women & Children and Madison Hospital. All three are part of the not-for-profit Huntsville Hospital Health System.

“We are very pleased to be recognized again by U.S. News & World Report,” said Tracy Doughty, president and CEO at Huntsville Hospital. “Providing excellent care is our greatest priority, and it is a credit to our team for this recognition in nine major clinical services that we provide.”

For its 2022-2023 Best Hospitals rankings, U.S. News evaluated 116 acute-care hospitals in Alabama. UAB Hospital in Birmingham was ranked No. 1 in the state.

The rankings are based on a variety of factors, including risk-adjusted survival and readmission rates, patient experience surveys, patient volumes and nurse staffing levels.
