For 25 years, the U.S. Veterans Memorial Museum in Huntsville has worked to preserve the stories, artifacts and history of the Americans who served their country.
Next month, the museum is inviting the community to help celebrate that milestone.
The U.S. Veterans Memorial Museum will mark its 25th anniversary Nov. 7 with a free commemorative event at the Jaycee Community Building at John Hunt Park, followed by an open house highlighting organizations that serve veterans and preserve military history.
“This anniversary is an important milestone for the museum and for everyone who has contributed to its mission over the past 25 years,” Museum Event Coordinator Mallorie Edwards said. “It is an opportunity to remember those who came before us, recognize the veterans and volunteers who have helped build this organization, and look forward to the museum’s future.”
Doors will open at 9:30 a.m., with the anniversary program running from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The program will include a keynote speaker, remarks from Museum Director Randy Withrow and a special “25 Years of Remembrance” dedication honoring the people and stories that have shaped the museum.
Following the formal program, visitors can meet with veteran services and historic preservation organizations during an open house.
The anniversary celebration coincides with a Living History Day at the nearby museum, where reenactors and firing demonstrations will bring military history to life. The museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Admission to the anniversary celebration at the Jaycee Community Building is free. Museum admission is separate and is not included with the anniversary event.
The volunteer-operated U.S. Veterans Memorial Museum preserves military artifacts and vehicles spanning American military history from the Revolutionary War through the modern era.
