UAH goalkeeper CeCe Szopa earns women’s soccer National Player of the Week

HUNTSVILLE — A shutout was so nice, CeCe Szopa did it twice.

Szopa, the University of Alabama in Huntsville goalkeeper, picked up a pair of shutouts for the Chargers last week and, for her performance, was named the NCAA Division II Conference Information Directors Association Player of the Week.

The junior from Nolensville, Tenn., led the Chargers to a 2-0-0 week with clean sheets against No. 13 Lee and Trevecca Nazarene.

Szopa played all 180 minutes in goal for UAH, collecting her first two shutouts of the season.

In the 2-0 win over Lee,  Szopa tallied five saves while facing an onslaught of 17 total shots and 10 corner kicks. Szopa then faced 15 total shots and five corners while making six saves in the 2-0 win over TNU.

Szopa was also named Gulf South Conference Goalkeeper of the Week.

The Chargers return to action Saturday at Montevallo. Kickoff is 7 p.m.
