Volunteers sought for Ditto Landing spring cleanup

HUNTSVILLE — The City of Huntsville Green Team, the Heart of the Valley YMCA and Rocket City Mom are looking for a volunteer “Clean Team” for Ditto Landing Cleanup Day.

The annual cleanup is set for May 13 from 8 a.m. to noon.

Every spring, the banks of the Tennessee River need help after seasonal rains and winter runoff leave branches, logs and limbs at the water’s edge.

A plethora of tires, broken appliances, Christmas trees and building materials are also dumped in the shallow waters where people swim and fish.

Besides being an eyesore, the manmade litter and pollution threatens the local water supply, affecting people and wildlife.

The Green Team helps keep Huntsville beautiful and sustainable through litter prevention initiatives and waste reduction and recycling programs.

Volunteers lead the charge and the Green Team provides all the supplies.

Use #LitterFreeHSV on social media to reach friends and family members who would like to come out for the day and form a Green Team cleanup team.
