HUNTSVILLE — There were no reindeer sleighs or midnight sightings Tuesday of Santa Claus at Ditto Landing. It was just Madison County Commissioner Phil Riddick and Ditto Landing Executive Director Brandi Quick announcing a signature holiday event – Christmas on the River at Ditto Landing.
Destined to be a holiday tradition, visitors can stroll through Ditto’s Christmas Card Lane, featuring 4-foot by 8-foot illuminated Christmas cards, and visit the indoor holiday miniature train display at Santa’s Depot.
There will be a Christmas tree farm where visitors can buy trees. Christmas at Ditto Landing will offer special weekend events throughout December, in addition to walk-thru, drive-thru and pet friendly nights during the week.
Special weekend events will include a fireworks night, “Deck the Docks”, food trucks, “Caroling at the Docks” and, always, a visit from St. Nick.
Christmas on the River runs from Dec. 2-31 and is free admission.
In keeping with the holiday spirit, Ditto Landing will accept pet supplies as donations for the Greater Huntsville Humane Society, and canned food items for Manna House during the event.
The Ditto Landing elves are still thinking up fun things to do along the waterfront, so they encourage everyone to watch social media leading up to the most wonderful day of the year.
Residents, businesses, and organizations interested in sponsoring their own custom-designed Christmas cards along the Tennessee River Greenway can sign up by clicking here.
The Christmas “cards” are 4-by-8 plywood sheets and cost $200 each. The proceeds benefit the Ditto Landing Master Plan.
Christmas at Ditto Landing will be new this year, but it is certain to become a holiday tradition well into the future.
