HUNTSVILLE — Huntsville International Airport and Carnegie Visual Arts Center are hosting a reception Tuesday to welcome the newest exhibit featuring “Alabama Art Lady” Sonya Clemons.

The Airport Artway New Artist Reception will also feature music by singer-songwriter Matt Prater from 5 to 7 p.m. The Artway is on Level 2 of the Airport Terminal above Ticketing.

Based in Scottsboro, Clemons is prolific artist of paintings, murals and even Panoply posters. Her work focuses on the community, culture and history of Alabama. She is the resident artist for the Jackson County Drug Court providing free art classes for people in recovery.

At Tuesday’s reception, Clemons will speak about her own pieces as well as her work with Pictures of Hope, an arts program she developed for participants in the Jackson County Family and Drug courts. In addition to Clemons’ gallery show, selections produced through Pictures of Hope, a recipient of six Alabama State Arts Council grants, will be shown in the Breezeway Gallery.

The airport’s microgallery is a collaboration with Carnegie Visual Arts Center in Decatur, and exhibits featuring regional and local artists rotate quarterly.

The reception is open to the public, free to attend and refreshments will be served. Additionally, the first 30 minutes of airport parking is free.
