HUNTSVILLE – Huntsville’s first lawn bowling competition makes its mark next month on Butler Green at Campus 805.
Not sure how to play? It is similar to bocce ball with a slight curve.
Teams of four attempt to get their bowl (or ball) as close to the “jack” as possible. They roll the bowl past the hog line but short of the ditch and aim for the jack.
But, there is just one catch – the actual bowl has a bias in its design. So, depending on which one you roll, the bias causes the bowl to curve or arch, making the game a bit more challenging than it sounds.
It will no doubt make for a unique evening of fun, food and drinks, and friendly competition on Sept. 15 at 5:30 p.m.
The entry fee to compete and join a team costs $250 per person with proceeds going to the National Children’s Advocacy Center in Huntsville. The center provides support to Madison County children and families who experience physical or sexual abuse.
The first of its kind in the world, the Children’s Advocacy Center serves as a model to more than 1,100 others in 50 states and 43 countries. They offer therapy, advocacy, and forensic interviewing services at no cost.
Tickets to watch, and not compete, cost $30 per person with food and drinks included.
