NORMAL — The campaign to raise $15 million in individual donations to fund campus improvements, STEM infrastructure expansion, and scholarships at Alabama A&M University is gaining momentum.
The university announced today the campaign – part of the 150th anniversary celebration – has surpassed the $3 million milestone.
“We’re excited about what we’re seeing from alumni, supporters, and friends as this record-setting campaign continues to grow,” said Vice President Jamal Ali. “We get one chance to celebrate the rich heritage and bold future of our university, against the backdrop of this sesquicentennial year, and we’re engaging the entire Bulldog nation to take part and leave their mark in various ways.”
The $15 million individual gifts goal is just one part of a broader campaign to transform AAMU. During its anniversary year, the university aims to raise $150 million through various sources including public funding, research and grants funding, corporate sponsorships, and in-kind donations.
“The real story of this historic campaign will be told by how much support we are able to generate from individual donors,” said Ali. “We’re asking the AAMU community to step up like never before and help set a new standard of support from those with direct affinity to the institution.”
One way the university is enlisting support is through its ongoing 150th Anniversary Torchbearer events – small gatherings that bring together alumni and supporters to raise a minimum of $25,000. So far, 40 Torchbearer events have been planned throughout the celebration year and the events have raised more than $650,000.
All alumni and supporters are invited to join the campaign at www.aamu.edu/150. Individuals interested in hosting a Torchbearer event are invited to contact the AAMU Advancement team at [email protected].
