NORMAL — In the midst of its Sesquicentennial Celebration, Alabama A&M University has achieved record enrollment for the third consecutive year.
AAMU’s official student count for the fall semester is 7,808 – the largest enrollment in the institution’s 150-year history. A new student enrollment of 2,825 helped lead to an overall enrollment increase of 7.03%.
The continued growth reflects AAMU’s expanding reputation as a destination campus for students seeking The Hill’s vibrant HBCU culture, academic rigor, and transformative student experience.
Alabama A&M is the state’s largest Historically Black College or University.
President Daniel K. Wims said the milestone is the result of intentional, strategic work happening across every division of the University.
“This growth is not by chance. It’s the outcome of a deep commitment to student success,” said Wims. “We’ve invested in academic programs that meet workforce needs, in the physical transformation of our campus, and in the experiences that make Alabama A&M a place where students want to be.
“As we celebrate our 150th year, we are showing the world what it means to start here and go anywhere.”
The record enrollment also highlights how AAMU’s commitment to student-centered transformation extends beyond the classroom.
From new facilities and enhanced housing options to increased campus engagement, expanded scholarships, and innovative outreach, the university has worked purposefully to elevate every aspect of the Bulldog experience. The investments are positioning AAMU as a model for growth among HBCUs and peer institutions nationwide.
“It’s an exciting time at Alabama A&M,” said Vice President of Student Affairs Dr. Braque Talley. “On campus right now, you see the construction of our new student amenities building. A new state-of-the-art facility is taking shape. The complete transformation of two residential halls will expand on-campus living.
“The continued enrollment growth is a stamp of approval from students and parents on all the work happening to advance the student experience at AAMU and is also a direct reflection of the dedication, strategy, and hard work of our enrollment management team.”
Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. John Jones said academic innovation and quality remain at the heart of AAMU’s growth.
“Our faculty and academic leaders have worked intentionally to expand opportunities that align with today’s students and tomorrow’s workforce,” said Jones. “From new academic programs and research initiatives to growing online and graduate offerings, our efforts are centered on access, excellence, and student achievement.
“These record numbers reflect that the strategy is not only sound — it’s succeeding.”
