All in the family: Madison’s 5Boys climbing up the Inc. 5000 rankings

MADISON — From a garage to a 27,000-foot facility, a mother’s brainchild has grown  exponentially in just over a decade.

And, today, it’s her children who are reaping the rewards.

5Boys Apparel, which operates out of a storefront on Jetplex Circle in Madison, has emerged as one of the fastest-growing, privately owned businesses in the nation. For the second time in as many years 5Boys, which does screen printing and embroidery, made the Inc. 5000 list.

The magazine placed 5boys at No. 1,002 on the 2023 list, up from No. 2,140 in 2022.

5Boys is one of 25 city and two area companies on this year’s rankings.

“Over the years, our business has evolved from a local brick & mortar-based business to an e-commerce based-business with shipping to every state at least four times in the last six
months,’’ said Kyle Dennis, the company president who runs the operation along with his
brothers Eric and Jaime.

Meanwhile, across Madison County, online business Mandala Scrubs of New Market is No. 16 in the Inc. 5000 and is the highest ranked among local, area and statewide businesses. Mandala Scrubbs is a national brand that doesn’t have storefronts and offers what it calls “premium scrubs at honest prices.’’ According to mandalascrubbs.com, its warehouse is in Huntsville.

In Madison, the Dennis boys’ parents Robin, whose idea it was to start the then-family home business in 2010, and dad Gary still own 5Boys but are no longer involved in the day-to- day functions. Eric started with 5Boys the year it started, while Kyle and Jaime came aboard in 2017.

“We have been able to grow into one of the top seven largest direct-to-consumer screen printing companies in America in 2023,’’ Kyle said.

Two other brothers, Sam and Ryan, don’t work for 5Boys but played a part in shaping the name.

The company moved from the family garage to a 1,500-foot facility, then expanded to its current location that has five automatic presses running 18 hours a day, 40-plus employees and what Kyle said was “thousands of customers nationwide.’’
