A&M’s Dozier named to All-SWAC preseason first team; Bulldogs picked 6th

BIRMINGHAM — Alabama A&M guard Kintavious Dozier was named to the Southwestern Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball preseason first team, the conference announced Wednesday during Media Day.

Dozier transferred during the offseason to Alabama A&M from SWAC foe Grambling State.

While at GSU, the Lanett native averaged 12.7 points and 3.3 rebounds in 69 games played. He posted a career-high 34 points at Washington State during the 2023-24 season and added a personal-best nine rebounds (vs. Texas Southern and vs. Arkansas Baptist) and nine assists (vs. Arkansas Baptist) last season.

Meanwhile, Alabama A&M was chosen sixth in the conference’s preseason poll.

The Bulldogs received 163 points in being selected sixth in the preseason poll, while Bethune-Cookman, with 12 first-place votes, garnered 232 points to claim the top spot. Southern recorded 214 points, followed by Jackson State (208 points), Alabama State (183 points) and Texas Southern (182 points).

Alabama A&M opens their season next Monday with the Ballin in Boutwell exhibition game against Samford, followed by the Mayor’s Cup on Oct. 27, hosting crosstown rival UAH.

The Bulldogs begin the regular season at home Nov. 3, playing host to Blue Mountain Christian. AAMU takes to the road just two days later at the Big 10’s Indiana.
