HUNTSVILLE – It will be a barking and meowing good time Saturday at Huntsville Animal Services’ Howl-o-ween Trunk or Treat. This is a first-time event for the shelter at 4950 Triana Blvd. in Huntsville and it runs from 10 a.m. to noon.
It is all part of a Halloween weekend filled with festivities featuring decorated car trunks filled with sweet treats.
“We’ve got candy for your little humans and free giveaways to take home to your pets,” said Huntsville Animal Services Director Dr. Karen Sheppard. “Best of all, we’ll give you a baggie of dog or cat treats to take inside and share with the shelter animals, who are looking for forever homes.”
Costumes are welcome but not required and the shelter recommends not bringing your furry family members so the shelter animals can enjoy the extra attention.
This event is free and open to the public.
Shelter animals will be available for adoption during the festivities.
Adoptable pets are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and come with a Huntsville city license and free bag of pet food.

Those unable to adopt are asked to consider fostering an animal through the shelter’s foster program.
“We love our community and want to offer a unique spin on the traditional trunk or treat. We love seeing new faces at the shelter and wanted to create an event that would be fun for both humans and animals,” Sheppard said. “It’s a real treat for everyone involved.”
The shelter is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays.
