Huntsville International Airport has another passenger record to add to a year already marked by rapid growth.
The airport served 182,556 travelers in July, making it the busiest month in HSV history and the first time monthly passenger traffic has surpassed 180,000.
July traffic was up 8.5% from the same month last year and easily surpassed the previous record set just two months earlier. May 2026, with 173,748 passengers, now ranks as the airport’s second-busiest month.
Airport officials credited the continued surge largely to more nonstop destinations and additional airline capacity. The number of available seats at HSV increased 11.1% compared with July 2025.
Allegiant has added four nonstop destinations since arriving at HSV last November, with service to Fort Lauderdale, St. Petersburg/Clearwater, Orlando/Sanford and Gulf Shores. Breeze Airways added its own nonstop to Fort Lauderdale in June, while Delta Air Lines is offering twice-daily service to New York’s LaGuardia Airport.
“Huntsville travelers are benefiting from an elevated travel experience as our world-class airline partners introduce larger planes, increased flight frequencies, and new destinations at HSV,” said Joey Ceci, Huntsville International Airport Board chair.
Ceci said Delta’s LaGuardia service and expanded Orlando flights from Breeze helped push July traffic more than 8,800 passengers above the previous monthly record.
The latest numbers come as the airport continues major improvements aimed at keeping pace with growing passenger demand.
HSV is midway through a concourse renovation that has doubled its food and beverage offerings, including the addition of Starbucks, while upgrading restrooms, gate seating and flooring. Construction is also underway on a $59 million parking deck expansion designed to add capacity for travelers.
“Record passenger growth proves that when competitive fares are available, our community chooses the convenience and exceptional service of Huntsville International Airport over driving out of town,” said Butch Roberts, CEO of Huntsville International Airport.
Roberts said the numbers also provide an important signal to airlines considering additional service in the North Alabama market.
“Our record-breaking numbers send a clear message to airline partners that North Alabama prioritizes flying local,” he said. “As we invest in modern facilities, new dining, and expanded parking, continued local support will ensure our airlines keep delivering larger planes, increased capacity, and expanded nonstop service.”
Huntsville International currently provides commercial service to 18 nonstop destinations through Allegiant Air, American Airlines, Breeze Airways, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines.
