ATHENS — Bank Independent and Athens State University have partnered to create debit and credit cards that support students’ financial goals while also giving back to the college.
With every Athens State Affinity Card opened by an Athens State student, Bank Independent is making a $25 donation to support the initiatives of the university.
“Athens State University’s Office of Advancement was evaluating ways that we could engage our faculty, staff, students, alumni, and friends in a way that could benefit the University Foundation,” said Dr. Keith Ferguson, Vice President for University Advancement. “Other universities and colleges offer affinity card programs with local financial institutions as a method to give back to their Foundation.”
To launch the collaboration, Bank Independent recently made a donation of $10,000 to the Athens State University Foundation, Ferguson said.
“We are beyond excited to have such a strong community relationship with Bank Independent where we can help our faculty, staff, students, alumni, and friends of the University help meet their financial goals, but also give back to our beloved institution,” he said.
Ashley Balch, public relations manager for Bank Independent, cited the university’s and bank’s commitment to education and community support.
