HUNTSVILLESheffield-based Bank Independent is continuing its eastward expansion.

The bank recently held a ribbon-cutting for a branch in the Hampton Cove community of Huntsville.

“Bank Independent is built to serve, not built to sell and we are excited to extend our service in Huntsville,” Macke Mauldin, Bank Independent’s president said.

The Hampton Cove branch is the third Bank Independent to open in Huntsville and fourth in Madison County.

Mauldin’s grandfather and a group of farmers started the Bank of Leighton in 1947 after the town’s only bank moved to Fort Payne overnight. Bank Independent now serves 18 communities and has grown to 650 team members.

Bank Independent recently opened a Downtown Huntsville office at 225 Holmes and is scheduled to open a branch on County Line Road in western Madison County this summer. A South Huntsville office at Hays Farm is set to open in early 2024.

“We invite you to visit our new location and experience the same exceptional quality and service you’ve come to expect from Bank Independent,” said Hampton Cove Branch Manager Miranda Nichols.

A community bank based in North Alabama, Bank Independent was recently named to the Newsweek magazine Top 100 Most Loved Workplaces list. This is the second year for Bank Independent to be honored on the annual list.
