A new partnership between Boeing and Drake State Community & Technical College aims to help train workers for advanced manufacturing jobs supporting Huntsville’s growing defense industry.
The organizations will formally launch a Technical Apprenticeship Program on June 17 that will provide paid, on-the-job training, industry certifications and a pathway to employment with Boeing. The program will include opportunities connected to Boeing’s PAC-3 Seeker program.
The apprenticeship is designed to strengthen Huntsville’s workforce pipeline as demand continues to grow for skilled employees in aerospace, defense and advanced manufacturing fields.
According to information released ahead of the announcement, participants will receive hands-on training while working toward industry-recognized certifications. The program is also intended to create a direct route to employment opportunities with Boeing.
The partnership brings together one of the region’s largest aerospace and defense employers with a community college that has expanded its focus on workforce development and technical training programs in recent years.
Officials scheduled to participate in the announcement include Drake State President Dr. Patricia G. Sims, Boeing Vice President of Manufacturing Lance Fulks, Alabama Community College System Chancellor Jimmy H. Baker and U.S. Rep. Dale Strong, R-Huntsville.
Additional details about the apprenticeship, including training requirements, enrollment information and the timeline for participation, are expected to be released during Wednesday’s announcement.
