Boeing to lay off more than 150 workers in Huntsville

HUNTSVILLE — A companywide layoff by Boeing is having a ripple effect in the Tennessee Valley.

According to the aerospace giant, employees in Huntsville are among the nearly 17,000 employees Boeing will let go.

Boeing notified Alabama officials last month that it will make 158 layoffs in Huntsville among 3,509 layoffs in six other states to take effect Jan. 17. Some layoffs elsewhere have already begun.

CEO Kelly Ortberg said last month Boeing planned to reduce the size of its total workforce by roughly 10% in addition to several other initiatives aimed at “restoring (the) company.”

In June, Boeing laid off 128 Huntsville employees.
