Boys & Girls Clubs hold groundbreaking for Athens Teen Center

ATHENS — The Boys & Girls Clubs of North Alabama didn’t let the rain dampen its enthusiasm Tuesday as it broke ground for the Athens Teen Center.

The facility will provide vital resources and support for teenagers and pre-teens in the community, the organization said in a news release.

“The groundbreaking ceremony for the Athens Teen Center marks the beginning of a new chapter for our community’s youth,” said Jarret Collier, Club Director of the Athens Unit. “This facility will serve as a hub for empowerment, offering essential services to support the growth and development of our young people.”

The Athens Teen Center will feature a variety of amenities tailored to the needs of teenagers (ages 13-18) and pre-teens (ages 10-12), providing spaces for academic enrichment, social interaction, and personal growth.

Collier emphasized the significance of establishing a dedicated space where youths can find “guidance and mentorship as they navigate the challenges of adolescence.”

Aligned with the Boys & Girls Clubs’ mission, the Athens Teen Center will focus on promoting academic success, healthy lifestyles, workforce readiness and character & leadership among its members. Through a range of programs and opportunities, the center aims to empower youth to reach their full potential and become active participants in their communities.
