GRAMBLING, La. — This is a year of firsts for the Alabama A&M women’s basketball program.
The Bulldogs have their first 20-win season in the Division I era following last weekend’s 71-63 victory over arch-rival Alabama State.

It also is Head Coach Dawn Thornton’s first 20-win season in her 10-year head coaching career – and it’s her first year on The Hill.
Now, the Bulldogs have another goal in sight – a share of the Southwestern Athletic Conference women’s basketball regular season title.
Alabama A&M is 13-3 in the SWAC, a game behind Southern University, 14-2.
Riding a five-game winning streak, Alabama A&M visits Grambling State today at 6:30 p.m. and closes out the season Saturday at Southern in a game which could determine the regular season championship.
The Jaguars are riding a seven-game winning streak and host Alabama State today at 5:30 p.m., ironically giving the Hornets a chance to help their rival Bulldogs.
Kalia Walker paces the Bulldogs in scoring at 15.3 points per game, second in the SWAC.
Teammate Alisha Wilson is also a force to be reckoned. The SWAC’s Preseason Defensive Player of the Year has had 12 double-doubles this season and is almost averaging a double-double per game with 11.8 points per game and 9.5 rebounds per game, which is second in the SWAC.
Today’s and Saturday’s games will be doubleheaders with the men’s programs. The contest against the Tigers will be live streamed via SWAC Digital Network with Santoria Black and Ossie Clark on the call. Saturday’s matinee can be watched via Jaguars Sports Network.
