HUNTSVILLE – It’s almost time to lace up your walking shoes, or superhero boots, for a good cause.
The annual March of Dimes March for Babies walk returns to Big Spring Park in Huntsville on Saturday, and this year’s event includes a fun-filled start for the youngest heroes in our community.
Before the main walk steps off, kids are invited to take part in the Kids Superhero Sprint. While the kids should be ready to line up at 9:45 a.m. for the first run, there’s a second chance for those who miss it, they can run after the walk as well. Each child who participates will receive a superhero cape, while supplies last.
The March for Babies is the largest annual fundraising campaign for the March of Dimes, a nonprofit organization committed to improving the health of mothers and babies. Through groundbreaking research, advocacy, and education, the organization is working to end premature birth, birth defects, and infant mortality.
Ashley Toms, executive director of March of Dimes Alabama, said the event is a celebration of community, compassion, and commitment.
“We want to welcome people to learn more about the March of Dimes, why this is important and why our mission is still so relevant,” Toms said.
Toms said it’s easy to get involved, participants can sign up at marchforbabies.org, create a personal or team fundraising page, and join the walk in person.
This year’s event has a deeply personal connection for event Co-Chair Joey Ceci, whose triplets were born prematurely.
“My boys not only made it but grew into healthy, successful individuals,” Ceci shared. “The research, advocacy, and support that March of Dimes provides are life-changing. Their work means everything to not only families like mine, but for babies everywhere.”
The March for Babies isn’t just a fundraiser, it’s a movement to ensure every baby is born healthy and has the best chance at life. It’s also a chance for families, friends, and supporters to come together, walk in solidarity, and raise awareness for maternal and infant health.
“We look forward to seeing everyone come together to give every baby the healthiest start possible,” said Toms.
