TUSCUMBIA — Colbert County Sheriff Eric Balentine has announced his endorsement of Jay Mitchell for the Republican nomination for Alabama attorney general.

In a news release, Balentine cited Mitchell’s proven record of standing with law enforcement and presiding over the state’s toughest criminal cases as an Alabama Supreme Court Justice.
“Jay Mitchell is the kind of leader law enforcement can count on,” said Balentine. “He understands that protecting Alabama starts with protecting the men and women who risk their lives every day in the line of duty. Jay will fight to strengthen protections for law enforcement officers, expand access to mental health resources for first responders, and make sure we have what we need to keep Alabama safe.
“I know he’ll take care of my deputies — and every officer across this state.”
According to the news release, Balentine’s endorsement is driven by Mitchell’s proactive approach to immunity protections, mental health resources, and high-level training for law enforcement officers.
“Sheriff Balentine is a hands-on leader who invests in his people and his community,” Mitchell said. “His passion for bettering law enforcement is contagious, and I look forward to working alongside him to make Alabama safer and stronger.”
The Alabama statewide primary election is May 19, 2026.
