Daytime lane closures planned for US 72/Florence Boulevard widening

Grayson Carter and Son Contracting continues to construct additional lanes on Florence Boulevard in Lauderdale County. During the next month, the contractor will implement single-lane closures during daytime. (ALDOT contributed)

FLORENCE — Drivers should expect daytime lane closures on U.S. 72/Florence Boulevard in Lauderdale County for the next month, the Alabama Department of Transportation announced.

Grayson Carter and Son Contracting is widening about two miles of the corridor, from Indian Springs Drive to Sky Park Drive, just west of Shoal Creek, to six lanes.

Starting Monday, the contractor will close single lanes in either direction daily through late July or early August.

To avoid impacts during peak travel hours, closures will generally take place between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. westbound and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. eastbound.

Drivers should anticipate delays and plan additional time for travel during these times.

Funding for the $24 million project to construct additional lanes includes a Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development grant obtained by Lauderdale County as well as a combination of state and other federal funding.
