Do you live here? If so, your new state representative will likely be decided May 24

(256 Today)

It may be just a primary, but the Alabama state representative for District 20 will be decided on May 24 – for all practical purposes.

With a field of four Republican candidates and no Democratic candidates to challenge the winner in the Nov. 8 general election, that means less than two weeks from now – unless there is a runoff – House District 20 constituents will know their new state representative.

The winner of the Republican primary election for District 20 will still appear on the general election ballot and, barring an unprecedented write-in effort, that winner will be the new representative.

The four Republican candidates vying for your vote are: James D. Brown, James Lomax, Angela McClure and Frances Taylor.

Primarily located in South Huntsville, House District 20 is one of the state’s more geographically compact districts while still containing more than 45,000 residents.

Rep. Howard Sanderford has represented the district for more than 30 years. A Republican, Sanderford first assumed office in 1989, but he is not seeking re-election.
