Dynetics air defense contract climbs to nearly $655 million

A major U.S. Army air and missile defense contract awarded to Huntsville-based Dynetics earlier this year has grown to nearly $655 million.

Dynetics was awarded a $37.7 million contract modification for additional spares and engineering services supporting the Army’s Indirect Fire Protection Capability Increment Two, or IFPC Inc 2.

The modification brings the cumulative value of the contract to $654.8 million, according to the Department of War.

The latest work will be performed in Huntsville and Tucson, Arizona, with completion expected by Nov. 30, 2029. Army Contracting Command at Redstone Arsenal is the contracting activity.

The award builds on a $617.2 million contract announced in April for the Army’s fiscal 2026 production buy of IFPC Inc 2 systems. That contract included launchers, retrofit prototype launchers, all-up-round magazines, soldier trainers, training devices, logistics support, initial spares and engineering services.

IFPC Inc 2 is part of the Army’s layered air and missile defense architecture and is designed to protect fixed and semi-fixed sites against threats including cruise missiles, unmanned aircraft systems, rockets, artillery and mortars.

Dynetics developed the Enduring Shield launcher used in the IFPC Inc 2 program. The system is designed to integrate with the Army’s broader air and missile defense network and provide commanders another layer of protection against increasingly complex aerial threats.

The latest $37.7 million was obligated at the time of the award using fiscal 2024 Army procurement funding and fiscal 2026 research, development, test and evaluation funding.

The contract is part of a substantially larger Army commitment to IFPC Inc 2.

In 2024, the Army announced a $4.1 billion undefinitized indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract with Dynetics covering low-rate initial production, full-rate production and support services for the system. The initial procurement under that effort included 18 launchers.

Dynetics is a wholly owned subsidiary of Leidos and is headquartered in Huntsville’s Cummings Research Park. The company has extensive engineering and manufacturing operations in the city supporting air and missile defense, hypersonics, space and other national security programs.

Leidos acquired Dynetics in 2020 for approximately $1.65 billion.
