HUNTSVILLE — Motorists on North Memorial Parkway in Huntsville should take an alternate route tonight, the Alabama Department of Transportation announced.
ALDOT said to expect a temporary complete closure of the northbound U.S. 231/U.S. 431/North Memorial Parkway service road just north of Mastin Lake Road late tonight into early Wednesday morning.
The contractor will set six bridge girders for the north span of the overpass at Mastin Lake Road from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. During that time, all northbound traffic must use alternate routes. Turns from Mastin Lake Road in either direction to the northbound service road will also be prohibited.
Leading up to the full closure, expect a single-lane closure beginning about 7 p.m., ALDOT said.

Working from within the closed median area where the future limited access mainline is under construction, the contractor installed six girders early Monday with no interruption to traffic. Girders are long, horizontal beams that will support the future bridge deck.
Previously, the contractor installed all girders on the central span over Mastin Lake Road. In August, left turn lanes on the service roads opened to traffic.
ALDOT anticipates the $34 million project will be completed next summer.
