DECATUR – Prepare for a spectacular sight as more than 50 vibrant hot-air balloons take to the skies during the annual Alabama Jubilee Hot-Air Balloon Classic.
This iconic event, marking its 47th year, promises an unforgettable Memorial Day weekend, May 25-26, at Point Mallard Park.
The Alabama Jubilee Hot Air Balloon Classic has become a beloved tradition, offering a weekend filled with excitement on the ground and in the air. Festivities kick off at 6:30 a.m. May 25 with the exhilarating hound and hare balloon race, where pilots compete to hit a target set by the lead balloon.
The 50th annual Point Mallard Auto Expo and its showcase of classic vehicles rolls in from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Decatur Art Guild arts and crafts show is 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the Point Mallard soccer fields.
Additionally, the Southland Flywheelers will display beautifully restored tractors from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., with tractor games and a pedal tractor park for young children. The day concludes with an enchanting Balloon Glow at 8:15 p.m.
The Lynn Layton Chevrolet Key Grab and enjoy more balloon activities start at 7 a.m. May 26. The Decatur Art Guild arts and crafts show reopens from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., offering ample time for festivalgoers to browse handmade treasures. The festivities continue with another balloon fun flight at 6:30 p.m., followed by live music at 7 p.m. and the grand finale, the Alabama Jubilee Fireworks Spectacular, at 9:30 p.m.
There is no charge for admissionand guests are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs. Pets are strongly discouraged due to the loud noises associated with balloon activities.
