Flying high: Pryor Field airshow promises regional impact

TANNER – The first North Alabama Airfest was such a success, the host decided to put on another one.

The Pryor Field Airport Authority recently announced plans have taken off for a show to be staged in late 2025 or early 2026. The event is expected to bring thousands of attendees to Pryor Field Regional Airport in Tanner.

This family friendly event debuted last June with overwhelming support from local communities and out-of-state visitors.

“Pryor Field’s first-ever airshow was a huge success,” Airport Director Adam Fox said in a statement. “We set out to provide a platform that would allow people to visit the airport to learn about the aviation/aerospace industry as well as get excited about the growth of this niche in North Alabama; we accomplished that goal.”

PFAA Chairwoman Faith Hooper said the event helps showcase the area’s aviation industry.

“I am thrilled to support the North Alabama Airfest at Pryor Field – an exciting weekend that will showcase our region’s vibrant aviation industry, inspire the next generation of aviators, and highlight the significant growth happening at Pryor Field,” she said.

The North Alabama Airfest will feature aerobatic performers, historic warbirds and cutting-edge aircraft. Attendees can look forward to breathtaking stunts, precision flying, and an up-close look at a variety of military and civilian aircraft.

The event will also include food vendors, merchandise tents, and a dedicated kids’ zone with educational activities to inspire the next generation of aviation professionals.

The North Alabama Airfest is seen as an economic boost for the region.

In a news release, organizers say the event is “much more than a weekend for thrill seekers or aviation enthusiasts.

“Large events such as the North Alabama Airfest bring thousands of people into North Alabama’s communities to enjoy all the things that make Alabama a great place to live, work, and play.”

Danielle Gibson, president/CEO of Decatur Morgan County Tourism, agrees.

“The North Alabama Airfest at Pryor Field has a significant economic impact on our local communities, generating revenue through tourism, hospitality, and local business engagements,” she said. “This event attracts visitors from near and far, boosting sales for hotels, restaurants, and retail establishments, while also promoting regional pride and visibility.”

Pryor Field Airport Authority is again partnering with David Schultz Airshows, an airshow coordinator, operations, and event company. The company will coordinate all air and ground operations to ensure a safe and fun experience.

As preparations begin, organizers are seeking support to ensure the event is bigger and better than ever.

“Partnerships are the key to success,” Fox said. “Airshows are an excellent platform for businesses to get their brand in front of thousands. We have a variety of options that provide brand visibility, potential customer engagement opportunities, media exposure, and exclusive access for VIPs.”

Sponsorship packets will soon be available.
