The Food Bank of North Alabama is asking the community to help fight hunger this February through its annual “Spread the Love” peanut butter drive, a monthlong effort focused on one of the organization’s most in-demand food items.

Peanut butter is consistently among the food bank’s top requests because it is nutrient-dense, shelf-stable and requires no preparation, making it especially useful for families, seniors and children experiencing food insecurity across North Alabama.

Throughout February, residents are encouraged to donate unopened plastic jars of peanut butter or peanut butter alternatives, including almond butter, sunflower seed butter and soy butter. Donations will be accepted Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Food Bank of North Alabama Distribution Center, located at 225 Finney Drive SW in Huntsville.

“Just one jar of peanut butter can help provide multiple meals for a family struggling with food insecurity,” said Bobby Bozeman, development director at the Food Bank of North Alabama. “This drive is a simple way for our community to come together and make a meaningful impact.”

In addition to individual donations, the food bank is encouraging organizations to host their own peanut butter drives. Offices, schools, churches and community groups can collect donations together to increase the overall impact. Toolkits and support materials are available to groups interested in participating.

Those interested in starting a group drive can contact the development coordinator by email at [email protected].

The Food Bank of North Alabama serves an 11-county region where more than 187,000 people struggle with limited access to nutritious food. The organization partners with more than 230 agencies to distribute food throughout the region, relying on community support to help meet ongoing needs.
