Football fans fret; what’s next for Keith?; a major new retailer at Clift Farm; and more in this week’s OTR

Off The Record: The latest rumors and rumblings in North Alabama

Fretful fans

Some football fans are less than thrilled that former President Donald Trump will be attending Bryant-Denny Stadium tomorrow to watch the Alabama Crimson Tide take on the Georgia Bulldogs. Increased security and longer lines are just a couple of the complaints. One Alabama fan tells OTR, “Listen, I’m a Trump supporter but I’ve been to both games he’s attended and it’s a heck of a hassle getting in.” He also added, “And you can’t sneak in minis as easily,” referring to the tiny alcohol bottles some fans have been known to slip into the games. While smuggling in unlawful libations is not recommended, getting there early and allowing for plenty of time to enter the stadium this coming game day certainly is.

What’s next for Devyn Keith?

After former Huntsville School Board member Michelle Watkins defeated City Councilman Devyn Keith in Tuesday’s runoff election for City Council’s District 1 seat, many are wondering what’s next for the assistant professor at Alabama A&M. A campaign supporter cautions anyone counting Keith out, “Devyn is passionate about serving. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a state office run in his future.” Which office that might be is worthy of contemplation.

Mountain High lands at Clift Farm

Clift Farm continues to grow, this time adding a retailer to the mix. Sources say Mountain High Outfitters will join the roster of shops and restaurants. They will be moving into the Village Retail space which means the popular outdoor store could be open within the next few months. No word if it will be in time for the Christmas shopping season. Meanwhile, another highly anticipated opening at the 550-acre development near Madison is hopeful for a November opening.

A West Egg tea time

The Lanier House Tea Room in Madison has announced a Gatsby-inspired menu for the month of October. Located on 20 Martin Street in the historic district of Downtown Madison, the tea room suggests “donning your finest 1920s attire to indulge in an opulent afternoon of fine teas, decadent treats, and sparkling conversation.” The award-winning Chupper Time Catering will be providing provisions. Reservations for the limited-time menu can be made from Oct. 1 – Nov. 2.
