For goodness snake! Utility crew shocked by cause of outage

BOAZ — One snake’s curiosity led to a widespread power outage Wednesday that affected hundreds of North Alabamians.

While the wayward snake was proven to be the cause the outage, the Marshall DeKalb Electric Cooperative first thought it may have been a problem on the Tennessee Valley Authority’s end.

Utility workers were surprised to find a large intruder on their primary substation in Albertville.

“We located the problem and thought we would share with our members,” the co-op posted on its Facebook page.

The snake cut the power, but the power won. Crews were able to quickly get electricity running by midday.
