DECATUR — The Fitness Court, an outdoor gym featuring seven exercise stations, has come to the River City, thanks to a partnership of Decatur, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama and California-based National Fitness Campaign.

The court is at Wilson Morgan Park near the trailhead. There will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony 2 p.m. Thursday.

Decatur Mayor Tab Bowling said residents have been asking for more outdoor exercise and fitness areas in the city.

“This fitness center definitely adds to the opportunities for better health and fitness for all the residents of Decatur, regardless of age and current health condition,” he said. “I offer my thanks and appreciation to Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama for enabling the City of Decatur to participate in this opportunity.

“It is a great day in our city when we can offer more free recreational opportunities for our citizens.”

National Fitness Campaign is a wellness consulting firm that provides programs and services to cities, schools and sponsors.

“One of our company’s top priorities is to help improve the health and wellness of Alabamians,” said Sophie Martin, director of Corporate Communications and Community Relations at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama. “We are honored to partner with Decatur Parks & Recreation to bring our Blue Cross-sponsored Fitness Courts to Alabama.

“This innovative platform will help encourage communities to lead healthy and active lifestyles.”

The court provides free access to high quality workouts, while creating equitable access to exercise for Decatur and local communities. Created for people ages 14 and over, the workouts are adaptable for all fitness levels, allowing participants to move at their own pace.

The free Fitness Court app acts like a coach in your pocket, enhancing the outdoor gym into a digitally supported wellness experience. Users can download the app by clicking here.

Mitch Menaged, founder of National Fitness Campaign, said he is proud to welcome the Decatur Parks & Recreation as a leader in health and wellness for Alabama and across America.
