Governor Kay Ivey on Thursday announced a series of appointments to fill six vacancies across the state, including the appointment of Cullman County District Judge J. Chad Floyd to the Cullman County Circuit Court.

Floyd, of Cullman, was appointed to serve as circuit judge in the 32nd Judicial Circuit, succeeding Circuit Judge Gregory Nicholas, who retired in January after 19 years on the bench. Floyd has served as a Cullman County district judge since 2020.

“Chad Floyd has forged a distinguished record as District Judge in Cullman County since I first appointed him to that position in 2020,” Ivey said in a statement. “He possesses a strong depth of knowledge of the law combined with six years’ proven judicial experience. I am therefore pleased to appoint him to the Cullman County Circuit Court.”

Floyd is a graduate of The University of Alabama and the Mississippi College School of Law. In accepting the appointment, he said he was honored to follow Judge Nicholas and felt prepared for the role based on his experience on the district court bench.

“I am humbled by the confidence that Governor Ivey has placed in me and look forward to embracing this opportunity,” Floyd said. “Having served as a District Court Judge in Cullman County since March 2020, I feel well prepared to serve in this new role.”

In Baldwin County, Ivey appointed Ashley W. Siebert of Fairhope to serve as circuit judge in the 28th Judicial Circuit. Siebert succeeds Circuit Judge Jody Bishop, who retired in January after a combined 25 years of service in Baldwin County district and circuit courts. Siebert previously served as a district judge after being appointed by Ivey in 2023.

In addition to the judicial appointments, Ivey announced four other appointments to state boards and offices.

Shelley East and Cooper Holmes were appointed to the Alabama Historical Commission. Nathan Rhudy was appointed to the Board of Home Medical Equipment, and Linda Jennings was appointed to the Board of Examiners for Dietetics and Nutrition Practice. Arthurita Kynard Smith was also appointed as Perry County revenue commissioner.
