Governor sets special election date to fill Alabama House District 27 seat

MONTGOMERY – Gov. Kay Ivey has set the special election dates for the vacant House District 27 seat. The seat was held by then-Rep. Wes Kitchens, who won the Alabama Senate District 9 special election Jan. 9.

Gov. Kay Ivey set the qualifying date and special election dates for the district which includes Arab, Guntersville, Union Grove and Grant and other parts of Marshall County.

Ivey set the special primary election for April 2; the special primary runoff, if necessary, for April 30; and the special general election for July 16.

The deadline for qualifying with major political parties 5 p.m. today. The deadline for all independent candidates and/or minor parties is 5 p.m. April 2.

 “I commend Sen. Wes Kitchens for his exemplary service in the House, and as he ascends to the Senate, I am calling for a special election to fill the vacancy,’’ Ivey said. “It is essential we ensure District 27 continues to have strong representation.

“I urge everyone in this district to make their voice heard by voting in the upcoming special election. Alabamians deserve to be rightfully represented in the Alabama Legislature.”
