MADISON — Carter Rivers, owner of Green Rivers Landscape Company, is a Madison native with a heart for his city.
Rivers grew up in the heart of downtown Madison, right off Church Street, where he spent much of his time mowing neighbors’ yards and doing other outdoor yard jobs. This is a passion he has always harbored, and one he invested in through his bachelor’s degree in landscape horticulture from Auburn University.
After working in the landscape and nursery industries for the eight years following graduation, Rivers felt a push to reach clients directly. He founded Green Rivers Landscape Co. fueled by his education, years of expertise and a desire to meet his clients with integrity and professionalism.
The business specializes in enhancing, installing, and maintaining residential and commercial properties. While Green Rivers Landscape cares about providing quality services, Rivers said the real passion lies in the community.
“I really enjoy meeting the customer, getting to know their goals and getting close to them throughout and after the service,” he said.
Rivers lives this out in his no-ne-size-fits-all approach.
For each project, Rivers considers the budget, the layout of the yard, knowing the drainage, constructing the bed shape, keeping with the the desires of the client and more. This is where his design background — from college courses and years of hands-on experience in the industry — comes in handy to allow Rivers to expertly piece the project together.
“Every single day and every single project is different,” Rivers said.

Green Rivers Landscape offers a wide selection of services including full service maintenance, irrigation repairs and installation, top dressing and aeration, landscape and hardscape installation and renovation, and outdoor lighting installation.

Outdoor lighting installation allows homeowners to highlight those places they relax in or create an overall warm environment. And, Rivers said, it is a form of home security.
“Instead of bright floodlights, you can use the pretty fixtures with warmer lights,” Rivers said.

“There is satisfaction in the hard work and getting to drive by a couple years from now and enjoy that impact on the city,” he said.
