A California-based electrical contractor is bringing 160 jobs and a $45.3 million investment to Jackson County with a new manufacturing facility in Hollywood.
Gov. Kay Ivey announced Tuesday that Helix Electric has broken ground on its Advanced Fabrication Campus, which will manufacture prefabricated electrical components and large modular electrical assemblies for construction and industrial projects.
The facility will produce underground duct banks, duct bank risers, hangers, electrical devices and modular electrical skids, according to the Alabama Department of Commerce.
The new campus will allow Helix Electric to expand its manufacturing capabilities while moving production closer to its existing teams and customers on the East Coast.
“Helix Electric’s major investment in Jackson County is exciting news for Alabama and a strong vote of confidence in our state’s workforce, infrastructure and business climate,” Ivey said. “This project represents meaningful opportunities for Alabama families and continued momentum for economic growth in the region.”
Helix Electric CEO Boris Shekhter said the company sees Hollywood as a place to establish a lasting presence.
“Hollywood, Alabama, is exactly the kind of community where Helix Electric belongs,” Shekhter said. “The people here are hardworking, the region is growing, and local leaders have made it clear they want to build something that lasts.”
He said the investment represents a long-term commitment to Jackson County and its residents.
Investment targets rural job growth
The project is part of Alabama’s effort to attract advanced manufacturing investment to rural communities. Jackson County is designated as a Target County under the state’s economic development programs.
Alabama Commerce Secretary Ellen McNair said the investment could also create opportunities for local contractors, suppliers and small businesses.
The Tennessee Valley Authority, North Alabama Electric Cooperative, Jackson County Economic Development Authority and Alabama Department of Commerce worked together to support the project.
“We are proud to partner with North Alabama Electric Cooperative, Jackson County EDA and the Alabama Department of Commerce in our shared commitment to supporting job creation and investment in the communities we serve,” said Heidi Smith, TVA’s vice president for economic development.
State Sen. Steve Livingston called the groundbreaking a major milestone for Northeast Alabama’s economic development efforts.
“Helix Electric’s investment in Jackson County will benefit our citizens and our communities for decades to come. It is a major milestone for economic development in Northeast Alabama and is proof that our industry recruitment strategies are working,” he said. “I’m proud to join Governor Kay Ivey in welcoming Helix Electric to Sweet Home Alabama.”
Nathan Lee, president and CEO of the Jackson County Economic Development Authority, said the project will provide new career opportunities for area residents.
“A $45 million investment and 160 new jobs will provide life-changing career opportunities for our residents and stimulate our local economy for years to come,” Lee said. “We are proud to welcome Helix Electric as our newest corporate partner and look forward to supporting their continued success.”
Additional details about the facility’s construction timeline, anticipated opening and hiring opportunities are expected as the project moves forward.
