HUNTSVILLE – Rock and roll can never die. So wrote and sang troubadour Neil Young in 1979.
This spring, he’ll undoubtedly reprise that hit when he comes to the Rocket City on his first tour in 10 years with his band Crazy Horse.
The Orion Amphitheater released a partial lineup for 2024, including a May 5 date featuring Young and Crazy Horse. The limited announced roster also includes Greta Van Fleet, a group of young brothers and friends who shot up the music charts in the late 2010s with a sound resembling Led Zeppelin.
Lainey Wilson, Styx and Foreigner with John Waite and Needtobreathe are also on board with the majority of the schedule still to be announced. Full details can be found at www.theorionhuntsville.com.
Young and Crazy Horse began a collaboration in 1969 and this is the band’s first true tour in 10 years. However, the “Love Earth” tour is just a month long, kicking off April 24 in San Diego and wrapping up May 23 in Chicago.
The band is also releasing its live album “FU##IN’ UP,” which was recorded at concerts last year. A free CD is included with some ticket purchases.
“In the spirit it’s offered … made this for the Horse lovers,” Young said in a statement. “I can’t stop it. The horse is runnin’. What a ride we have.
“I don’t want to mess with the vibe. I am so happy to have this to share.”
Tickets for the concert go on sale Friday at 10 a.m.

Greta Van Fleet was formed in 2012 by three Kiszka brothers and two friends in Michigan. The brothers, along with Danny Wagner, comprise the current lineup. The group drew critics for their sound, which was influenced by Led Zeppelin, but others also lauded the band’s hard rock sound. The brothers have said their music was influenced by listening to their parents’ collection of records, many of them from the circa 1970s era.
