HSV begins construction on cell phone waiting lot

HUNTSVILLEHave you ever arrived at the airport to pick someone up, but they were a little delayed in arriving, and you are not allowed to stop at the terminal except to load and unload?

Soon guests waiting to pick up passengers flying into Huntsville International Airport will be gaining ground at the terminal.

Construction has began on a cell phone waiting parking lot along the inbound lanes of Glenn Hearn Boulevard. The lot will have 72 parking spaces and can be used for short-term waits.

Airport CEO Butch Roberts said as the airport continues to grow, and HSV welcomes additional carriers such as Breeze Airways, the overflow lot has become essential.

“The new cell phone lot will provide a convenient and safe place for guests to wait on arriving passengers,” Roberts said. “We are hoping that in providing this lot, we will see significant improvements for the traffic at the front of the terminal for active passenger loading and unloading.”

Guests can park in the cell phone lot until the arriving passenger calls or sends them a text message they are ready to be picked, reducing congestion in the front of the terminal.

If guests awaiting arrivals prefer to wait inside the terminal, public parking is available in the parking deck and economy lot.

Drivers should remain alert and exercise caution during construction. The $600,000 construction project is expected to last approximately three months.
