NEW MARKET — A Huntsville man has been charged with murder-domestic violence in the death of his wife Sunday night, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office reported.
Responding to a 911 call on Davis Road around 9:50 p.m., deputies found a woman with critical injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle. Emergency medical personnel  transported the woman, 31-year-old Maria Silos of Madison County, to Huntsville Hospital, where she was pronounced dead as a result of her injuries.
The preliminary investigation indicated the incident stemmed from a domestic altercation between Silos and her husband Garland Lockwood while traveling together in a vehicle. Deputies said Silos was initially driving but, during the dispute, she pulled over to the shoulder of the road.
The altercation escalated outside the vehicle, at which point Rockwood allegedly took control of the vehicle and struck his wife, deputies said.
Lockwood, 45, was arrested and charged with murder-domestic violence, the sheriff’s office said. He was transported to the Madison County Jail, where he is being held without bond.
The investigation is continuing, the news release said, and further details will be released as they become available.
