HUNTSVILLE – A suspect has been arrested but Huntsville police are seeking witnesses for information about Monday’s fatal shooting in west Huntsville.

Byron Alexander Peterson, 22, of Huntsville was arrested and charged with murder in connection with the death of 53-year-old Demetrius Jones at an apartment on Martin Road. However, investigators believe other individuals might have relevant information or security camera footage that could further assist in the case.
Police said there are no other outstanding suspects or persons of interest currently, and there is no danger to the community.
“An arrest has been made, but our work is not done,” Police Chief Kirk Giles said. “If you saw or heard something that could help, please come forward. Even small details can make a difference.”
Anyone with information should contact HPD Investigator Jeremy Woods at 256-746-4136. To provide an anonymous tip, call 256-532-7463 or submit information to Huntsville Area Crimestoppers at 53-CRIME.
