Huntsville’s Orion Express back after initial ride hit with music fans

HUNTSVILLE – The Orion Express is set to roll again for Friday night’s concert featuring Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit.

After an initial shuttle service offered by Huntsville Transit from downtown to the Orion Amphitheater, the city announced it will continue to provide safe, convenient travel to the outdoor concert venue in MidCity.

Quisha Bryant, director of the city’s Department of Parking and Public Transportation, said  if successful for the Outlaw Music Festival, the shuttle service might be brought back next year.

The service hit the right note for fans and will continue as a pilot program. The shuttles are a collaborative effort between the city, Downtown Huntsville Inc., and the Orion Amphitheater.

“We received positive feedback when we offered the service earlier this month, so we’re hoping more people try it out,” Bryant said. “There’s tremendous value in being able to get to and from The Orion without having to worry about finding a parking spot or waiting in traffic when the show is over.”

The Orion Express will run every 15 minutes from 4-7 p.m. and return riders to their destination from 9 p.m. until 1 hour after the event ends. Round-trip tickets are $10 per person; seniors and individuals with disabilities can ride for $5.

Pick-up and drop-off locations are:

  • 103 Jefferson St. (near The Kaffeeklatsch)
  • Hampton Inn
  • AC Hotel
  • Embassy Suites
  • Springhill Suites

Tickets can be purchased through the Token Transit app, available for iOS and Android users. New users will need to create an account and then verify their information. Once that’s done, the user should click “Buy Passes” and select “Adult” under the “Rider” section. Users should then click the “Orion Express to Jason Isbell Concert” option to purchase the fare.
